Viridis Safety - Taking a practical approach

Risk Assessment

Carrying out a risk assessment for an activity or situation is a vital step in protecting your workers and your business, as well as complying with the many regulations that utilise risk assessments as part of the risk evaluation process.

Viridis Safety's staff are experienced in carrying out risk assessments for a wide range of activity types and work environments. Our health and safety professionals draw upon your in-house production knowledge and blend this with their health and safety expertise to carry out an in-depth assessment of the specific activity or work environment being assessed.

General assessments

Risk Assessments should be carried out for all tasks, activities and environments (e.g. offices, laboratories and production areas) that have hazards associated with them.

Viridis Safety Staff are experienced carrying our risk assessments and can work with your staff to complete a comprehensive assessment of the hazards and risks in their work area. Our staff can also provide advice on improving control measures to reduce the risks posed by any hazards identified.

COSHH assessments

Viridis Safety staff are experienced in carrying out COSHH assessments involving a wide variety of hazardous substances and in a wide range of work environments.

The initial step, if required, is to undertake a chemical sweep to determine which chemicals are currently in use and which may be redundant and in need of disposal. The second step is to ensure that the most up to date Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is available. Following this preliminary review a COSHH assessment can be carried out for each hazardous substance in use. Viridis Safety can carry out or assist will any or all of this review and assessment process.

Display Screen Equipment (DSE) / Workstation assessments

DSE, VDU and Workstation assessments are a vital part of your defence against ill health in the workplace. Poorly equipped and arranged workstations can be responsible for causing work-related upper limb disorders, eyestrain, headaches, fatigue and stress.

Viridis Safety's health and safety staff are experienced in carrying out assessments of a wide variety of DSE and workstation setups and provide assessments both on a company wide base or where problems have already been identified.

Manual handling assessments

More than a third of all reportable injuries over three days involve manual handling contributing to over twelve million days being lost annually to work caused musculoskeletal disorders.

The Manual handling assessment is a vital tool in reducing the risks to your employees as they they lift, move or support loads.

Viridis Safety health and safety professionals can review your production processes and identify high risk manual handling tasks. These activities will then be assessed and recommendations made to help ensure the risks are minimised. Our report may recommend training, a process change, the provision of mechanical aids or a combination of these.

Fire

Almost all workplaces must have completed a fire risk assessment and produced a fire safety action plan. Your local Fire Prevention Officer will ask to see these documents if they visit your premises.

Our experienced staff can carry out a fire risk assessment and help you produce a fire safety action plan. The fire risk assessment and action plan should be updated should there be a significant change to your premises, production process or staffing levels.

Legionella

Legionella bacteria are widespread in the environment and they may contaminate and grow in water systems such as condensers, cooling towers and hot and cold water services.

Viridis Safety's health and safety professionals can assess your employees' potential exposure to legionella in the workplace, if required, and draw up an action plan to help you reduce these risks.
